President Barack Obama will nominate Charlotte, N.C., mayor Anthony Foxx to be the next US transportation secretary, according to widespread media reports.

Foxx, who has been mayor of Charlotte since December 2009, is expected to be officially tapped Monday to head the Department of Transportation.

If confirmed by the Senate, Foxx will replace Ray LaHood, who announced in January that he planned to step down as transportation secretary once a successor was confirmed.
