Delta Air Lines reports $1.24 billion 2009 loss

Delta Air Lines posted a 2009 net loss of $1.24 billion, narrowed considerably from a massive deficit of $8.92 billion in 2008 when results were affected by heavy goodwill impairment charges and costs related to its acquisition of Northwest Airlines. DL acquired NWA on Oct. 30, 2008, so its 2009 income and revenue include those of the Minneapolis-based carrier. But DL's 2008 figures include NWA only for Oct. 30-Dec. 31.
