The US Dept. of Transportation (DOT) has approved Etihad Airways applicationto begin codesharing with Aer Lingus to US destinations.
Etihad can now offer 10 weekly codeshare flights via Dublin to Boston, eight to Chicago and 12 to New York.
Passengers from Dublin to New York and Chicago will be able to pre-clear US Customs and Border Protection in Dublin, meaning Etihad Airways’ passengers will effectively arrive in the US as domestic passengers. The service will use Aer Lingus aircraft.
Etihad holds nearly a 3% equity stake in Aer Lingus and the two carriers are discussing additional commercial and cost opportunities.
Etihad carried more than 215,000 passengers between Abu Dhabi and Dublin in 2012.
