Bangkok Airways has firmed options on two ATR 72-600s and ordered one additional aircraft in a deal valued at $73.8 million at list prices.

The options formed part of an order for six -600s, plus two options, announced at the Singapore Airshow earlier this year. The final aircraft is a new order.

“We have been operating ATRs for over two decades, and we definitely consider that this is the perfect aircraft, while consolidating our leadership in some of the key domestic routes in Thailand,” Bangkok Airways president Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth said.

With this latest purchase, Bangkok Airways has committed to a total of nine ATR 72-600s, which are scheduled to arrive between the fourth quarter of 2014 and the first quarter of 2017. The aircraft will be used for growth and to replace Bangkok Airways eight ATR 72-500s.

“In order to further strengthen our commitment towards our operators in the region, we will also support the setting up of new training facilities for ATR -600s in Bangkok before the end of the year,” ATR CEO Patrick de Castelbajac said.
