Boeing said Monday it will boost the 777 production rate to 8.3 per month in the first quarter of 2013, the second 777 production increase the manufacturer has announced this year.

The 777 monthly build rate is currently five; in March, the company said it would push the rate to seven by mid-2011, about six months earlier than it had previously planned (ATW Daily News, March 22). "In response to strong customer demand globally, we are increasing our yearly production to 100 777s [in 2013]," Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Jim Albaugh said in a statement.

Boeing has tallied 1,163 total 777 orders with 907 delivered. The backlog for the type stands at more than 250 aircraft. "Suppliers are prepared to support the rate increase," it stated, adding that the "production rate decision is not expected to have a material impact on 2010 financial results."
