Welcome to AirKarp

After getting my blogging sea legs on the old ATW website contributing to the ATW Editors’ Blog, which I was honored to share with ATW Editor-in-Chief Karen Walker, I’m happy to be starting the AirKarp blog on the new ATW website. I hesitate to define this blog too precisely because I believe it will evolve over time, and that blogging by its nature is a malleable form. There’s never a shortage of issues to write about in the ever-changing world of commercial air transport.

My contributions to the old ATW Editors’ Blog were more occasional and were generally longer analysis pieces (these posts, done prior to March 2013, are archived below). Here I’ll be posting much more regularly, and expect to do a variety of types of posts. I’m sure over time some common threads will develop in this space, and I look forward to interacting with readers through this forum.

A bit of background: I’ve been an ATW senior editor for seven years and have been covering commercial aviation for 14. Prior to that, I spent a few years covering the back-and-forth of Washington politics for the late columnist Jack Anderson. One area I will definitely explore here is the intersection of government policy and aviation, which is often poorly understood.

OK, ready for takeoff.
