Dave Barger a most worthy recipient of the Pogue Award

Cool as they are, I often argue that aircraft are not the most important or interesting assets of an airline. What really makes the global air transport business tick is its people. So it’s great to see those people recognized.

This year, former JetBlue Airways CEO Dave Barger will be honored with the 2016 L. Welch Pogue Lifetime Achievement Award, awarded by the International Aviation Club (IAC) of Washington DC and Aviation Week & Space Technology. Full disclosure here, I am on the IAC board and ATW is a sister publication of AvWk, part of Penton Media.

Dave is typical of this industry’s leaders and the outstanding Welch Pogue Award recipients who have helped shape modern commercial air transportation. An industry veteran, he logged 30 years’ experience across New York-based JetBlue and Continental.

He is also deeply passionate about community involvement, service and education. He serves on the boards of the FlightSafety Foundation and New York’s PENCIL organization – Public Education Needs Civic Involvement in Learning. Other organizations he has supported include the New York Restoration Project, the USO of Metropolitan New York, and the National World War II Museum in New Orleans.

Dave will be presented with the Pogue Award at a celebratory dinner June 22 in Washington.

Details of the L. Welch Pogue Award dinner and ticket information can be found at http://www.iacwashington.org.

Congratulation Dave!
