Air Canada president airlines and COO Ben Smith has been appointed Air France-KLM CEO.

Air France-KLM posted the news Aug. 16 that its board of directors had appointed Smith, who will take up his post by no later than Sept.30.

“He will be in charge as a priority to revitalize Air France, to give a new strategic impulse to the Group and to work on a new leadership approach with all Air France-KLM’s teams,” Air France-KLM said.

Smith started his airline career at Air Ontario. Air Canada’s LCC unit, Rouge, was launched under his leadership.
