Sukhoi Superjet 100 gains EASA type certificate

Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) aircraft has been granted its type certificate A-176 from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for meeting airworthiness and environmental requirements. The certificate will be presented to Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Co. (SCAC) Feb. 24, the manufacturer said in a statement.

The European validation program comprised several flights and ground tests.

The first SSJ100 entered into service last spring when the first aircraft was delivered to Armenian Armavia (U8) (ATW Daily News, April 20, 2011). Russian Aeroflot (SU) received four SSJ100s in 2011 and a fifth aircraft was delivered in early 2012. By Jan. 22, four SU SSJ100s had accumulated 2,381 flight hr. in 1,418 revenue flights. The carrier mainly operates domestic routes from Moscow (SVO) to 10 Russian destinations as well as to Minsk (MSQ), Budapest (BUD) and Oslo (OSL).

SCAC said it has 168 firm orders for the SSJ100 from carriers including Italian Blue Panorama (BV), which ordered 12 aircraft at the Paris Air Show in June. In early 2011, Mexico’s Interjet signed a firm order for 15 SSJ100s for delivery in the 2012 second half (ATW Daily News, Jan. 19, 2011).

According to SCAC, Mexican aviation authorities will validate the EASA certificate, which will take three months.
