AviancaTaca has chosen CFM International LEAP-1A engines to power the 33 Airbus A320neo family aircraft it has on order.

The airline also ordered CFM56-5B engines to power 18 classic A320 family aircraft. AviancaTaca earlier this year firmed an order for 51 A320 family aircraft, 33 of which are neos.

Including a comprehensive engine maintenance service package signed by the airline, the engine-order agreement between AviancaTaca and CFM is valued at $2.7 billion, according to CFM.

Deliveries of the classic A320s are slated for 2014-2016 while the A320neos are scheduled for delivery from 2017-2019. AviancaTaca currently operates a fleet of 66 CFM56-5B-powered A320 family aircraft.

“We picked the LEAP-1A after a very thorough technical evaluation and we believe it is the right engine for our A320neo fleet,” AviancaTaca CEO Fabio Villegas Ramirez said in a statement.

Pratt & Whitney’s PW1100G geared turbofan engine is also an option on the A320neo.
