Russia’s Interstate Aviation Committee has certified the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) to operate on narrow, 30-meter wide runways.

This Supplemental Type Certificate will allow SSJ100 operators to increase the number of possible destinations as part of current ground air transport infrastructure.

The certification program, which ran in February and March, included simulation and flight tests of two test aircraft at Ramenskoye Airport near Moscow and Karlovy Vary International Airport in Czech Republic, which have 30-meter wide runways. Tests included simulation of aircraft functional systems’ failure as well as rejected takeoffs.

In June, the SSJ100 received CAT IIIa ICAO certification to land under tough weather conditions with low visibility below 175 meters, including landing with up to 10 meter per second flank wind.
