Low-cost airline Norwegian has opened a new UK headquarters by London Gatwick Airport, marking its first permanent workspace outside of Norway.

“Our new UK headquarters symbolizes our commitment to this hugely important strategic market,” Norwegian UK CEO Asgeir Nyseth said.

The building will house Norwegian’s UK-based flight operations, training, technical, safety and compliance, communications, marketing and sales staff.

The move is significant, as Norwegian has secured a UK operating license and is controversially seeking a US foreign carrier permit to expand its long-haul network from the country.

Norwegian is the third largest airline at Gatwick and has plans to base 50 Boeing 787s and 100 short-haul aircraft at the airport, if it is granted a second runway.
