The Rise of US Airways

This airline has been in the news lately - apparently spurned by United (again). One might think this airline is not an attractive partner for a merger. But at presentations by its management at the airline's media day was most impressive. Particularly that given by its COO Robert Isom. We got a chance to meet quietly with Mr Isom and speak about the remarkable changes occurring within the airline on an operational level. Doing lots of small things right - with a focus on maintaining the schedule - has led to big changes within the airline. Its numbers in terms of performance are something to be proud of. One thinks back to the days when Continental's managers worked wonders within that airline - and look at it today. This airline is a lot stronger than many realize.

These guys know airline finance and how to pad block times, but they fail miserably on corporate culture by exploiting the two workgroups against each other for the sake of profit.

What this article fails to

By Anonymous

What this article fails to mention is that US Airways is really two airlines running in tandem. The former US Air and America West are still operated totally separately. Parker compared to Bethune?? Pathetic. The reason Continental became so good from being so bad is that Bethune is an ops guy, and Parker and friends are financial schemers running a perpetual stock pump and dump machine.

Ya so, pad the block times,

By Anonymous

Ya so, pad the block times, force the doors closed 10 minutes early leaving passengers behind, lead the pack in customer complaints. That's real success. Oh and so base the corporate bonus on that trumped up on time performance. It's all about their bonus, stock options and perks, NOT about the customer and definatly not about the employees.
