Long-serving Qantas Airways chairman Leigh Clifford is planning to step down in October and will be replaced by Richard Goyder.

Clifford has been chairman for 11 years, and during that time he has overseen a transformation program at the airline and its subsequent financial recovery. His current three-year term will conclude at the company’s annual general meeting on Oct. 26.

Goyder has been on the Qantas board since November 2017. He previously served as CEO of Wesfarmers and is also chairman of Woodside Petroleum and the Australian Football League. He is the former chairman of the Australian B20, a business advisory body to the international economic forum.

Clifford described Goyder as “one of the most experienced business leaders in Australia and an excellent choice to lead the Qantas Board into the future.”
