Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation announced plans to launch its CAPA AeroPark best practice aviation training campus in India. Facility will accommodate operational and educational training requirements for airlines, airports, ANS providers, government and suppliers. Sites in Bangalore, Navi Mumbai and Pune are under consideration. Final location will be announced in early 2009. First phase is slated for 2010.

GECAS announced an order for five firm and 20 option ARJ21-700s to be powered by GE's CF34-10A. Aircraft are scheduled for delivery to the lessor in 2013. GECAS is the first Western customer to order the 90-seater, which so far has sold 206 units. If all options are filled, the deal is worth up to approximately $800 million. According to GECAS, Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China sees a potential market for 850 ARJ21s over the next 20 years, which GE said would be worth more than $4 billion in engine revenue. The -700 is expected to enter the market next year.

Hong Kong Airport Services and Hong Kong International Airport Services agreed to a merger forming a single ground-handling company. HAS will have more than 3,000 employees and serve 40 airlines. Financial details were not disclosed.

Norwegian Air Shuttle contracted Braathens IT Solutions and Genkey to develop solutions to expedite and secure boarding processes. In November, the carrier tested biometric technology on boardings for selected departures from Moss Airport Rygge. Installation is projected for spring 2009.

SITA reached a five-year, $10 million agreement with Kenya Airways to provide its VSAT technology for deploying satellite networks. System will streamline 46 remote sites into a single satellite hop to head offices in Nairobi and the reservations host in Europe. Migration is expected to boost the carrier's network capacity and availability and ensure better application response times.

SITA also won a five-year, multimillion-dollar deal with Transaero to provide its passenger management system including reservations, ticketing, departure control services, revenue management and airfare technology.
