Iberia A320. By Rob Finlayson

Iberia (IB) canceled several long- and medium-haul flights for Monday and Wednesday, and warned there will be delays as its pilots go ahead with a series of one-day strikes.

SEPLA, the union representing IB’s pilots, is protesting company plans to create a lower-cost carrier, Iberia Express, for its loss-making medium-haul network. The previous two one-day walk-outs were Dec. 18. and Dec. 29  (ATW Daily News, Dec. 29, 2011).

The new strike action coincides with the end of the festive break in Spain.

As alway and totally blind to

By Flying Dutchman

As alway and totally blind to reality of nowadays financial situations (especially Spain), the spoiled groups of pilots do what they do best when they don't get what they want. You really expect me/us to feel sorry for those ? Sure, they have a great responsability but I am pretty ... sure that they compensations are disproportionately better than most other employee groups. Please go ahead and strike and shoot yourselves in the foot !! More passengers for the new up- and coming airlines: the no-nonsense ones.

Isn't about management not

By Anonymous

Isn't about management not honouring the agreements they have made with their employees and not about pilots getting what they want - unless you mean employees not getting justice?

I wonder what would happen if the airlines would go to the manufacturers, fuel suppliers or their CAAs and say that from now on we pay only fraction of what you ask since your demands are unreasonable in the current economic situation?

It takes more than undemining the employees rights to put the industry right and it's about time we all accept that and come up with a comprehensive plan that is acceptable to all.
