Cebu Pacific has reached a deal to lease five Airbus A320neos to add to its fleet, which will allow the airline to accelerate its expansion plans.

The A320neos will be leased from Ireland’s Avolon Aerospace Leasing, with the first scheduled to be delivered in the first half of 2019 and the remainder due by the end of that year. These will join the airline’s current narrowbody fleet of 36 A320ceos and five A321ceos.

The Philippine LCC already has orders for two more A321ceos, 32 A321neos and six ATR 72-600s. These will be delivered between 2018 and 2022, and the carrier expects to receive an average of nine aircraft per year during this period.

The A320neos will have the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G-JM geared turbofan (GTF) engines. Cebu has also selected the Pratt GTF engines for its A321neos. This will be Cebu’s second deal with Avolon, as it leases three of its eight A330 widebodies from the company.

The carrier said the A320neos will strengthen its domestic operation as well as expand the international network. “We see expansion opportunities in new markets, as well as pent-up demand in areas where we currently operate,” Cebu VP-commercial planning Alexander Lao said.
