A Henan Airlines Embraer 190 crashed on landing at Yichun City Tuesday night, reportedly killing 43 of the 96 people on board.
Flight VD8387 en route from Harbin was carrying 91 passengers and five crewmembers. A number of the survivors sustained injuries, some of which were believed to be life-threatening.
China’s official Xinhua News Agency reported that the aircraft overshot the runway and "was engulfed in [a] blaze after it crashed as a heavy fog blanked the airport." The aircraft came to rest in a grassy area and photos showed firefighters battling a serious post-crash fire. The crash occurred at 9:36 p.m. local time, according to Xinhua.
Henan, a Shenzhen Airlines regional subsidiary, was formerly known as Kunpeng Airlines (ATW Daily News, May 12). Earlier this year, it changed its name and transferred its operating base from Xi'an to Zhengzhou.
CAAC said it is sending a team of officials and technicians to participate in the rescue and investigation.

By AnonymousAnother Pilot shows off his lack of ability. When will the airlines and their employees realise what the others learned a long time ago..... Physical training on real scenario's is better than the odd simulator every now and then. Pilot's need to get a grip of their lack of physical ability to fly in dangerous conditions....and stop it.

By Brie Anderson(I'm ex UK Royal Air Force, currently a major engine supplier test pilot) 1st I agree we should wait for expert's findings. At the same time I have heard from experienced instructors from Australia, Canada and France how they have been asked to fast forward pilot training to help ease the "Asian" shortage. Is this he result of this approach? E190 is a fine aircraft!
It is too early to comment
By Syed Mohammad HusainIt is too early to comment with the data reported. However currency and practice on instrument approaches may not go with sound judgment when the call comes. It is better to be on a coupled approach in case one feels rusty at that time.

By AnonymousSpeaking as an experienced CFI that teaches Chinese student pilots, all Chinese airlines and institutions try to rush commercial pilot development and it is obviuos that these young inexperienced pilots compound the problem by cheating on their records, leading to phantom experience and unfortunately lost lives.
