DOT: US airline workforce drops 2.4% in June

The US Dept. of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics reported that US airlines employed 2.4% fewer workers in June compared to the year-ago period. BTS said five network airlines (Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, US Airways, American Airlines and Continental Airlines) all decreased employment in June year-over-year. Southwest Airlines and AirTran Airways also reported a decrease in employees from the year-ago period. “Regional carriers Comair, Atlantic Southeast Airlines, Pinnacle Airlines, Horizon Air, Mesa Airlines, Air Wisconsin Airlines, Mesaba Airlines, Shuttle America Airlines, and Lynx Airlines also reported reduced employment levels compared to last year,” the report stated.
