China prohibits airlines from joining EU ETS

China has prohibited its airlines from participating in the EU Emission Trading Scheme (EU ETS), escalating the row over the new and controversial carbon emissions tax (ATW Daily News, Jan. 12).

According to a Reuters report Monday, the Chinese government’s State Council issued a statement on its website that said Chinese carriers were prohibited from participating in EU ETS without government approval, and they were also barred from using ETS as a reason to raise fares.

Assn. of Asia-Pacific Airlines DG Andrew Herdman told Reuters the ruling put Chinese carriers in a difficult position because they have to comply with EU ETS, or risk large fines, while also being told by their government that they must not comply.

“We’re now at the stage that it’s absolutely clear that a whole host of foreign governments are not going to allow the EU to do this,” Herdman said.

I agree and respect the Chinese government decision, and was looking for such decision to be applied by more countries based on the unilateral application by the EU. I believe regional aviation associations and organization/commission should think of having a similar approach toward the EU ETS. For instance, if the African or Arab civil aviation commission could impose a similar charge to the EU ETS charge this would balance the position through deducting each regional imposed charges from the other or it could be exempted against in return.

With such unitary precision, how did they possibly lose the war ?, one might ask, nein pilsner bitte ?. Further, that our arch enemy is the ridiculous beyond parody, European Commissioner for Climate Action Connie Hedegaard or Action Woman , who obviously needs a breath of recycled ETS air. She is, like all Euro-parasites, a Brussels 3 B, that is, a Ballless, Brainless Buffoon of Brussels, although she can claim a Euro-Gender exemption from the former, but evidently would not have the brains to do so for the latter. The EUEC=3B-QED, slainte Super Connie. The Lockheed Super Connie, though beautiful, spluttered out some serious emissions in its piston day.
Politically the Treaty of Rome of 1957 guaranteed freedom of movement of people capital goods and services. The so-called EU could not agree on that, now they cannot agree on EU debt obligation of a single currency’s Central Bank assuming debts of individual sovereign states without a central treasury. A central bank is supposed to be a lender of last resort to banks, not governments. This Euro fudge illustrates that the EU is not a union. This was as a result of a B-777-300ER capacity excess on the CCA-983/984 ZBAA-KLAX route and a temporary B-777-300ER shortage on the CCA 965/966 Morning –Afternoon Business route of CCA-965/966, from the start of Feb 2012, before last Summer, it was served by an Airbus A330-200. There was also 27 tonnes of high value express freight on 7 pallets, normally taken on CAO1041, which did not operate on Feb 7 2012, so CCA965 was a max revenue flight.

But Connie and Co, are most welcome to stand-ideally on a runway threshold, 100 feet from our tail, as we apply rated takeoff thrust without any derate or assumed temperature deductions-and measure our emissions, however she does that ?. Doing so would be somewhat hazardous, to say the least, but she/they would be doing World in general a favour and Europe’s taxpayers in particular.
