It is fairly obvious that SriLankan would be looking more to Airbus than to Boeing for their fleet renewal plans.

It should be a comfortable fit for them, within the oneworld Alliance. Cathay is as good a "host" or "godfather" as SriLankan will find in the region to help them into that Alliance.

As a follow-up to the above message, ......one notes that there are reports coming out of Sri Lanka suggesting an imminent order for Airbus aircraft, fitted with RR Trent Engines.

Here is the gist of the reports, based on local Sri Lankan media, and, apparently, the UK Sunday Times, which I have not actually read or even seen extracts from.

------- Sri Lanka Airways are poised to move on renewing their long-haul fleet, with 10 new Airbus aircraft in a deal that could be worth over $2.5 billion, according to a government official and a local media report.

The aircraft would be acquired / delivered this decade, over the coming 7 years

The aircraft envisaged are said to be : 6 x Airbus A330-300 and 4 x the new A350-XWB-900 aircraft, all fitted with Rolls Royce engines (RR Trent 772B-EP & RR Trent XWB-84, respectively for the A330-300’s & A350-XWB-900).

There was no immediate comment from SriLankan Airlines or the Aviation Minister.

These orders, or prospects of orders, that keep coming in for rhe Airbus A330, continue to confirm its fabulous "Indian Summer" in the autumn of its life.

Of course, the huge beneficiary, too, is the RR Trent 700 family.

This engine family just keeps notching up the score. Impressive.
