This is not a, "Hey, ... see ; I told you so" reaction.
----------------
With the transition between the previous to the new format of this web-site & its "Registered Readers' Comments", I have not recovered my bearings, yet.
-----------------

Nevertheless, here is what I wrote a few days ago, before picking up the above article.
--------
"Conventional wisdom" (that means "the herd", the merchants of superficiality, those who like the comfort of "mono-think" and reflections "à la mode"), and a few publications that churn out any old story as if it were gospel, have leapt on the band-wagon to say that in the Emirates -Qantas partnership/Joint Venture (JV), recently announced,
.... it is Qantas that is the weak link (certainly, .... it is no secret that Qantas have had their difficulties).

But, ... Hmm ! "Conventional wisdom" should dig a lttle deeper, and carry out pertinent analyses, instead of just hitting the key-board. These key-board players may just learn a thing or two !

They will wake up one day, when they see how that JV pans out ! Some French and other EU analyst-friends have been digging deep on this subject, and are surprised at the very strong contributions which Qantas will be able to make.

So much for the received ideas !

Emirates will be delighted to use Qantas' contribution in the field of BELLY-FREIGHT!

There is the possibility for Qantas to increase belly-freight capacity without having to invest in aircraft. It is to be noted that :
-- (i) whilst Cathay are unhappy about their uncertain freight-activity outlook,..... in the main geographical positions of their operations, ...
-- (ii)... Qantas can, reportedly, see their freight-market (belly-freight) picking up some sunshine, except that the limiting factor is Qantas' own available hold-capacity.

Qantas do not have B777-300ER in their passenger fleet. Previous CEO Geoff DIXON never wanted that aircraft in the fleet ! He had his reasons, apparently shared by Mr. JOYCE to-day.

Reportedly, those CEO's have never liked the GE90-115B engines.

In their massive B777-300ER fleet-component, Emirates have "bushels" of unused B777-300ER belly-freight capacity, "going begging", as we had indicated in other posts.

I would bet that one of the first areas of activity, in which the Emirates-Qantas JV will wish to move fast, is belly-freight operations !

It is in freight revenues that Airline Companies, with unused hold capacity, can pick up some really "quick wins". This could give a handsome start to the JV !

"Watch this space" !

Very good article.

Clear, factual and optimistic.

Also, it dovetails well with the comments above, and brings some balance to the picture, giving appropriate nuance to the previous media-hype (of a few weeks or months ago) on the more general Emirates-Qantas "partnership" or Joint Venture".
