Delta Air Lines has filed a lawsuit in US federal court against the US Export-Import Bank, alleging that loan guarantees to foreign airlines purchasing Boeing aircraft disadvantages US carriers that don’t have access to the loans.

Delta said loan guarantees given by the Export-Import bank to Korean Air, LAN Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Emirates and Etihad Airways to help those carriers acquire Boeing aircraft should be stopped. The Atlanta-based carrier said the loan guarantees amount to subsidies that give the foreign airlines an unfair edge, adversely affecting Delta and its employees.

Reuters reported that Export-Import Bank president Fred Hochberg said this week during a public appearance, “Despite what some of our critics say, Ex-Im Bank does not subsidize. We offer market-based loans.”
