China Aircraft Leasing Co. has placed an order for 20 150-seat Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China (COMAC) C919s.

COMAC now has 215 orders for the C919. In the past two months, China’s Bank of Communications Financial Leasing Co. ordered 30 C919s, Sichuan Airlines ordered 20 aircraft and ICBC Financial Leasing Co. placed 45 firm orders (ATW Daily News, Nov. 24).

COMAC marketing director Chen Jin said previously the company is negotiating with some foreign companies about possible C919 orders. Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker told Chinese reporters this week that the Doha-based carrier has been in talks with COMAC and would consider ordering the aircraft as long as “relevant criteria can be met.”

COMAC said the C919 will enter the final design definition phase this year. Detailed design will be completed in 2012 and the first flight is slated for 2014. Type certification is expected by 2016, followed by first delivery.

By 2020, COMAC expects to produce 150 C919s annually.
