Jet Airways said it has gained approval from India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation to serve as the Type Rating Training Organization for its Type Rating Training School, which will enable it to "induct pilots in smaller batches at regular intervals in order to optimize the usage of simulator as well as ground school training facilities. . .[leading to] faster, more-efficient induction of pilots into its workforce to fly its growing fleet."

Mechtronix Systems last week unveiled its "new generation" A320 FFS X full flight simulator that has been purchased by TACA and IFTC Istanbul (International Flight Training Center Istanbul), a subsidiary of Turkey's Gozen Group and affiliate of Freebird Airlines. [more]

Deutsche Flugsicherung reached agreement with Office National Des Aeroports in Casablanca to provide a €2.4 million ($3.7 million) training simulator with 17 workstations. Software features en route and approach control procedure testing and ATM system simulation. Contract covers training courses for ATC instructors and technical staff.

CAE said it acquired Sabena Flight Academy for an undisclosed amount of cash with the aim of expanding its pilot training capability. It will gain control of Sabena's training center in Brussels equipped with FFSs for A320s, A330s, A340s, 737 Classics and 737NGs. It also will take over Sabena's pilot training school in Mesa, Ariz., equipped with 40 aircraft.

Swiss Aviation Training said it will acquire an E-190 full-flight simulator to train Lufthansa Group cockpit crews. CAE is expected to deliver the simulator by year end.

CAE won orders for full-flight simulators and related Simfinity training devices valued at more than C$56 million ($56.6 million) from Aeroflot, Ansett Aviation Training, Skymark Airlines and a JV company that owns 50% of CAE's training center in Bangalore. SU purchased a CAE 5000 Series A320 FFS slated for delivery to its Moscow facility this year, while Skymark ordered a CAE 7000 Series 737-800 FFS for 2009 delivery. AAT committed to a CAE 7000 Series A320 FFS. The JV bought a CAE Simfinity APT trainer, a CAE 7000 Series A320 FFS and a CAE 7000 Series 737NG FFS slated for summer delivery.

CAE won orders for full-flight simulators and related CAE Simfinity training devices valued at more than C$60 million ($59.4 million) from Lufthansa Flight Training, Flight Training Finance, Swiss Aviation Training and Zhuhai Flight Training Centre. LFT purchased a CAE 7000 Series 777-200 LRF FFS, while FTF ordered a CAE 7000 Series 757 FFS and SAT committed to a CAE 7000 Series E-190 FFS. ZFTC bought two CAE 5000 Series A320 FFSs as well as a CAE Simfinity A320 IPT, a reconfigurable CAE Simfinity APT trainer and a CAE Simfinity 787 VSIM. Deliveries to SAT and ZFTC will begin later this year. LFT and FTF are slated to receive their FFSs in 2009.

Alteon Training won CASA approval as MTRO under new Civil Aviation Order 100.66 aligning Australian maintenance training regulations with European regulations. Approval affects the 737NG family. The 777 and 787 are slated for approval later this year.
