Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways announced Thursday it is suspending flights to Erbil, in the Kurdish region of Iraq. It cited advice received “regarding the possibility of a deteriorating security situation in the region” where fundamentalist Islamic State insurgents have occupied a swathe of Iraqi territory in the west and north-central regions of the country.
