More 'carbon accredited' airports in Europe

The number of European airports that are "carbon accredited" continues to increase and stood at 47 by mid January following the entry of Warsaw Chopin (WAW) in December and Dusseldorf (DUS) and Finnish airports operator Finavia in January. Finavia brought seven airports into the program. The covered airports account for 49% of European passenger traffic.

Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) was launched by Airports Council International-Europe (ACI-E) in 2009. ACA, which is an independent program administered by WSP Environment & Energy, assesses the efforts of airports to manage and reduce their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

DUS CEO Christoph Blume said, “We consider climate protection a continuous process for us, and our equipment and procedures are monitored regularly and operated in the most environmentally sound way possible.”
