Newest Russian airport launches operations

Gelendzhik, the first new civilian airport to be built in Russia in 25 years, commenced commercial operations in June. The airport is a Public-Private Partnership led by Basel Aero, which already operates airports in Krasnodar, Sochi, Gelendzhik and Anapa. The group's airports handled 3.5 million passengers in 2009, or about 9% of Russian airports’ throughput.

Russian airlines including Aeroflot, Rossiya, Ural Airlines, UTair, Gazpromavia, Avianova and Atlant-Soyuz already are operating to/from the new airport at the Black Sea resort.
