Just one month after taking ownership of Stansted Airport, Manchester Airports Group (MAG) has announced its first new airline customer.
Air Moldova will move its UK flight operations from Gatwick to Stansted at the end of April.
The airline will operate two direct flights a week to Moldova’s capital gateway Chisinau International Airport from April 29.
Stansted Airport MD Andrew Harrison said: “When MAG took ownership of Stansted Airport at the end of February, we set out ambitious plans to attract new airlines and grow the range of destinations. I’m delighted that Air Moldova is the first new airline to move their services to Stansted.”
He said MAG had “significant investment plans” for Stansted, including a £40 million ($61.3 million) upgrade of the terminal and security areas, with the aim of making the airport “more attractive to airlines looking to move into or expand in London.”
Harrison said the arrival of Air Moldova was a “very welcome” and early boost to the company’s “long-term objectives to grow Stansted.”
