Turkish Airlines denies breaking off talks with Airbus

Turkish Airlines has confirmed to ATW that it remains in continuing negotiations with both Boeing and Airbus regarding a potential order for narrowbody aircraft.

German media had reported that Turkish recently ended talks with Airbus regarding a potential order for up to 120 A320 family aircraft. The airline reportedly told Airbus it wants more Turkey-based suppliers involved in A320 manufacturing. But Turkish has not stopped talking to Airbus, an airline spokesperson said.

Separately, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan held meetings last week when Merkel brought an economic delegation to Turkey. During the visit, possible cooperation between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa was reportedly discussed.
