Indonesia’s Lion Air Group has placed a firm order with Airbus for 234 A320 family aircraft, comprising 109 A320neos, 65 A321neos and 60 A320ceos. This is Lion Air’s first Airbus order.

Lion Air will use the aircraft to meet growth requirements on its expanding domestic and regional route network. The carrier will announce engine selections for the aircraft in the near future.

The Group’s co-founder and CEO Rusdi Kirana said, “This landmark order will ensure that the Lion Air Group will continue its expansion with one of the most modern and advanced fleets in the world.”

Lion Air Group flies to more than 70 destinations in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

What is interesting in this order is the component of 60 x A320-CEO's, with deliveries starting in 2014.

The rest, .... we've been waiting for, ...... for how long, now ?

The good news is that, by the minute, these Airbus orders are showing up the ridicule of Boeing's bleatings about Airbus' "wrongful financing" of the A350-XWB;

All these Boeing moanings & groanings will disappear down the tubes, where these woeful noises belong !

The next piece of good news is that, once Boeing stop bleating, they will get on with the business of making really good aircraft, as they know how to !

Things are looking up !

Yes, Steve.

It is clear that Lion Air has the ambition to have a huge, mixed Boeing-Airbus fleet.

From now on, fleet renewal will probably be more or less on an "even Stevens" basis.

Both Air-framers should be happy.

Ryanair & AirAsia are not the only airlines with major clout !

Sounds as if Lion Air is planning expansion at a higher rate than Boeing can deliver planes and as such they've turned to Airbus to make sure the planes keep coming in at the rate they want to, remains the question: where's the money for all that metal coming from. OK, the US import/export have guaranteed part of the Boeing purchases but still...
