Arik Air orders 15 Boeing aircraft

Nigeria's Arik Air increased its commitment to Boeing airplanes, placing an order for 10 737-800s, four 787-9s and one 777-300ER worth a combined $1.8 billion at list prices.

The carrier placed an order for seven long-haul aircraft in the spring (ATWOnline, April 30), when it took delivery of two 737-700s, Boeing said. The 777--300ER previously was listed as unidentified by the manufacturer, while the 737 and 787 commitments are new. Arik eventually hopes to serve the US and is working with Boeing on securing US FAA Category 1 status for Nigeria.

"This additional order for Boeing jets demonstrates our commitment and a purposeful strategy to establish world-class commercial aviation service in Nigeria," Arik MD Mike McTighe said. The airline currently operates 16 aircraft on domestic routes.
