Ryanair mulls MS-21 or C919 order

Ryanair on Thursday confirmed to ATW it may consider ordering United Aircraft Corp.’s single-aisle MS-21 or COMAC’s C919 aircraft to support fleet expansion. Negotiations with Boeing for additional 737s broke down in late 2009 (ATW Daily News, Dec. 9, 2009).

"We are not wedded to any aircraft manufacturer," Ryanair’s Michael Cawley told the Independent. "We're talking to everyone, the Russians and the Chinese as well … Why wouldn't we?"

The carrier transported 4.57 million passengers in February, a 5% increase year-over-year. Load factor rose 1 point to 76%.

Perish the thought of being

By John

Perish the thought of being wed to Mr. Michael O'Leary and his obsession with badgering for the inconceivably lowest price. As an investor in Boeing, I personally am glad that Boeing did not continue any further with this percipitous race to the bottom. Anything wed to that jugernaut is tied to an inevitable destruction of value. While being tied to Boeing may not be a match made in heaven, being tied to Ryanair is a hellish union indeed.

I'm happy that Boeing moves

By Wolly

I'm happy that Boeing moves in the same direction as Airbus did. They broke up the discussions about new planes even in thought of the majority of their other customers. Hope they'll stay with this decision.
And....as Anonimous said: Good luck with operational reliability and Maintenance support not to forget delivery of parts in time.

Are we not forgetting just

By Mark Murphy

Are we not forgetting just how astonishingly successful Ryan Air is? We can all get "high and mighty" about O'Leary's gutter-trawling but, at the end of the day, guess who emerges smelling of roses?! I suspect RA's passengers won't care who produces the aircraft and we can applaud more competition at the medium-sized airliner level. Anyway, if it takes the likes of Herb Kelleher and Michael O'Leary to challenge our smug, self-congratulatory attitudes, I, for one, am all for it!
