JetBlue Airways CEO David Barger said the airline is eager for more progress on a winglet for the A320 that it can retrofit to its existing fleet. Air New Zealand became the launch customer for the sharklet-equipped A320 on new-build aircraft at last year's Dubai Air Show. "I'm just looking for a winglet or sharklet so we can go nonstop Boston-Oakland 100% of the time," Barger said at last week's Phoenix International Aviation Symposium, adding that the capability “is worth $20 million" to the LCC's bottom line. He said it is working with Aviation Partners and Airbus.

Sharklet??!! Who thinks up
By ChuckSharklet??!! Who thinks up these names? "winglets" look better on the A320's than those things they have had for years ( wonder when we will see an A380 with winglets?)
I'd imagine the Airbus PR
By KnightlyI'd imagine the Airbus PR guys came up with Sharklets. They actually have some pretty significant differences when compared to a traditional winglet so they aren't exactly the same thing. Now as for the A380, it actually operates better without winglets. Winglets add weight and are best suited to aircraft with shorter wingspans. The A380's wings are massive due to its size, therefore winglets could actually be a liability. There's also a question of cost, as winglets are surprisingly expensive. It can cost over $2 million to retrofit a single aircraft with a set of winglets, largely due to the fuel savings incurred over that aircraft's lifespan. Airbus wants a cut of that too.
